Lesson Reflection

My lesson about Water Quality and pH level testing was a success.  My students were engaged and loved going to the pond, creek, and stream, all located on school property, to collect their samples.  They were interested in the quality of their drinking water and had many questions about pH levels in other nearby sources.  They showed a lot of concern about pollutants that may enter the Columbia River and came up with some creative ways to inform others about the consequences of polluting.

  1. Elizabeth,
This sounds like a very interesting lesson for the students, especially in the month of June. I did a unit like this with Grade 8, but it didn't work out that we actually could go to the river because of bus schedules. You are so lucky to have a creak, a stream and a pond on your campus. I dream about having any kind of water source on campus, but it looks like maybe next year I will be able to organize a pond build on our high school campus next to the garden club which will be great. Do you plan to implement anything next year with the Columbia River? What creative ways did your students inform others about the consequences of polluting?

  2. Elizabeth,

I really wish we had a water feature near my school....it would be useful for teaching so many things, like pH, erosion, and ecosystems.

How are your students going to share their information? Could they post their work on a blog?
